About The Humber Flying Club
Humber Flying Club, History
The Humber Flying Club started business on the 30th. September 1982 as the Humber Flying Group. At that time, there was a serious need for an economical training organization away from the entrenched operations who charged what they thought and then doubled it.
Initially the Humber Flying Group had 6 members flying the privately owned Cessna 150 belonging to the CFI, Capt. John Greenfield. Little did we know what was to happen. Running the enterprise as a Group soon showed the limitations and it became clear that there was insufficient room for progressing any further. The membership rapidly expanded and soon it was necessary to form a limited company to provide for more expansion in the future.
The Cessna 172 we now use for professional training was purchased in 1985 and has been a good workhorse ever since. Another Cessna 150 was purchased in 1988. The Simulator was purchased in 1997 and the Piper PA44 Seminole in November 2000. All the aircraft and Simulator are owned by Capt. Greenfield.
The Company has weathered the recession over the recent years and emerged stronger through good housekeeping and prudent financial constraints.
More recently on the advice of our accountant, we have opened a CLIENTS ACCOUNT at the Bank similar to that type of account run by solicitors to look after clients large deposits until the training is completed.
Experienced Flight Instructors
We have 35 years experience in the UK training environment and 20 years training professional pilots. All the training will be done one to one and I never ever take more than three trainees at a time so you will not be sat around waiting to fly. Our aim is to get you qualifications you can be proud of and a prospective employer will be impressed with. The results speak for themselves.
Because of our reputation for high quality training, we are able to supply references to enable you to get worthwhile employment after successful completion. Some of the companies we have provided pilots for include Air UK (now KLM), Eastern Airways, British Midland, British Airways and Direct Flight.
Location of Flight Training
Our group of companies operate in the professional atmosphere of Humberside International Airport. The Humberside International Airport is fully equipped with MET self briefing, Flight Plan
Filing, an NDB on the field, ILS and DME on the main runway. The airport also has Radar plus SSR and can offer either radar vectors to the final instrument approach or monitor full procedural service for traffic separation.
Within thirty miles of the airfield there are two VORs with DME, and four other NDBs to practice procedures in relative peace and quiet. Also nearby, only twelve miles away, is Airway L975, with a base of FL70. There is plenty of unregulated airspace to train in without accidentally infringing upon any other protected or restricted airspace.
The Humber Flying Club operates a total non smoking policy. Smoking is also prohibited by the Airport Bylaws whilst airside. Now may be just the time to quit.
