Malcolm gained his PPL whilst on a work secondment in San Francisco in 2000, getting the exam flight in a few hours before he left the USA. The FAA Airman’s certificate was converted into an European PPL at Fowlmere (EGMA) and complex, night and IMC ratings followed. He then decided to build a helicopter and six years later started flying his own Rotorway Exec!
With an engineering background, both in mechanical and electronics, Malcolm has been a member of the AOPA Maintenance Working Group since 2011. He has worked in the automotive, consulting, computing, electronics, mobile communications, finance and aviation industries and in the latter worked closely with the CAA and other aviation organisations.
